Lego League

This year, the Fembots strove to be more active in the community, and what better way to do it than by helping out grade school students? Our team mentored the Sam Brannan Middle School Robotics team (The Robowolves) on various Saturdays during the fall, and also made a guest appearance at the First Lego League Competition on December 1, 2007, in Sacramento. We brought along our robot and several team members to show the young FIRSTers the next step after Lego League, and to encourage them to continue with FIRST in high school. We volunteered by helping out with resetting tables, counting up scores, and helping the teams transition from the competition area to the pit area.

E-Waste

On October 2nd and 3rd, the Fembots hosted a free e-waste collection at St. Francis High School. Thank you everybody who came and supported us. Overall we received over 15,000 pounds over the whole weekend. All the money we raised there will go towards our Practice Day on February 20th. On October 2nd, we worked during the school day, so St. Francis parents could drop off their e-waste when dropping off or picking up their children, and avoiding having to come back on the weekend. We opened at eight in the morning waiting for people who had promised to be there. Each Fembot took their shift, assigned by Victoria, and worked diligently. On October 3rd, we worked from seven to two. We had a lot more people than we needed so a lot of us practiced driving and operating for CalGames. The rest of us logged and greeted those coming for the e-waste collection.

Practice Day

On February 16, 2008, St. Francis High School hosted a practice day for other teams to come and test their robot on a full-size wooden rack that a few of our members built. Around 12 teams came, and gave their robots a test run. After a morning of fine-tuning and test-driving, students from every team mingled and made new friends. The afternoon consisted of several practice rounds, where each robot could show off its capabilities and test its limits on the field. It was a very exciting day, indeed, full of fun and gracious professionalism.

Mentoring

In 2007, Team 692 also helped out rookie team 2156, "The Wire Freaks" from Hiram Johnson High School through mentoring and by giving them any needed extra parts. We sent two girls over one day during the 2007 build season to aid and help them specifically with their pneumatic tubing. In addition, we donated our old crate so they could ship their robot. We were very happy to answer any questions they had. Good luck Hiram Johnson! Hope you all do well!
