Team History
2002 – The Rookie Veteran Team
Competition: San Jose Regional
About a dozen young ladies attended the first robotics club meeting of the new year completely unaware of what they were getting themselves into. With no returning members to share their experiences and stories, one has to wonder why these girls decided to become Fembots. With nothing to go by except the word of their teacher advisor, Mr Jerry Glasser, and the previous year's robot, the girls tried to create something out of nothing, again. The entire season was devoted to learning and understanding the essentials behind the creation and function of a working robot; any engineer would know that that in and of itself is something that would take more than the allotted 6 week building time. As a group of ambitious girls, the team strived to create a piece of machinery much more advanced than its predecessor. Of course nothing would have been possible without the generous help of Mr Glasser, the Prendergasts, and the supportive parents. The team arrived at the Silicon Valley Regional held at San Jose State hoping to impress anyone who remembered the 6-hour-robot. The team did what they could, but in a game of 2-on-2 one can only do so much when one or both robots malfunction or break. At the end of the weekend, the team seeded second to last. Good or bad, none of that mattered. Every single member gained a worthwhile experience that could never be replaced and it became a mission of how to improve for next year.
