2001 Game: Diabolical Dynamics

2001's game, Diabolical Drive, consists of one alliance that scores points in a variety of ways: placing balls into goals, positioning the robot in the End Zone at the end of the match, moving the goals onto a semi-stable bridge, which must be balanced at the end of the match, ending the match prior to the two minute time limit, or by carrying a robot across the field by using a stretcher, if the stretcher is in the End Zone at the end of the match. Each alliance competes using four team-built robots. In addition, there are forty small balls, approximately 13 inches in diameter and four larger balls, approximately 30 inches in diameter. Furthermore, there are two seven foot high goals with caster wheels around the bases that may be moved around the playing field.

One of the two goals is located near the Start Zone and the other of the two goals is located near the End Zone. Dividing the field in half is an 18-inch high railing with a central bridge. This railing permits robots to pass over its bridges or rails to access the opposite end of the field. At the start of each match, the alliance station contains 20 small balls. 20 small balls and 4 large balls will be located at the far end of the playing field as well.

Means of Scoring

In order to score, an alliance can fill the two goals with small balls, one point for each ball placed in each goal. Each larger ball placed onto a goal earns an alliance 10 points. Each robot located at the opposite end of the field, in the End Zone, acquires 10 points for an alliance team. Now the fun begins. If you can balance the teeter-totter bridge in the middle of the playing field with 1 goal on it, you multiply your end score by 2. If you can balance the bridge with both goals on it, you multiply your end score by 4. If you finish all of your tasks within a certain time frame, you receive a bonus multiplier, in addition to the points you've already earned. The following graph displays the bonus multipliers an alliance receives for completing all of their tasks within a certain time frame:

TIME REMAINING (sec) MULTIPLIER
120-91 3
90-61 2.5
30-16 1.5
15-0 1
