Every year the new game or challenge is announced at the Kickoff event held in Manchester, N.H. in early January. Each team has exactly six weeks to design and build a robot that accomplishes the goals of the new game. By the end of the six weeks, the team's robot must be built and shipped to their first regional. This year Kickoff was on January 7th, 2012
