In FIRST Lego League, young students are given the opportunity to apply real-world math and science concepts while using their critical thinking skills. In September, the teams are given a challenge that relates to a real problem in the world (global warming, pollution, or medicine, to name a few). Students who participate in FIRST Lego League learn to build, program, and test LEGO robots to compete in regionals in November and December.

The Fembots have been more active in their community than ever. We’ve visited middle schools in our community and encouraged them to start up their own FLL teams. We’ve mentored up to 16 FLL robotics teams in the Sacramento area. In addition, we host annual FLL tournaments at our school, St. Francis High School. The Fembots' involvement in FIRST Lego League began a few years ago and was inspired by our desire to promote the education of elementary students in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The Fembots are dedicated to helping FLL teams, whether it's helping train kids in effective speech delivery to developing design stratagems for their FLL robot. Mentoring FLL teams is an enriching experience for not only us, but for the students we mentor as well.
